Breckenridge and Monarch ski areas are approximately an hour's drive to the west. To the east, Colorado Springs' attractions include the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and the Garden of the Gods.
After returning from a hike on one of the areas' many 14,000 foot peaks, treat yourself to a soak in the natural hot mineral springs of Mt. Princeton or Cottonwood near Buena Vista. Or, a short hike to the Guffey Gorge includes picturesque waterfalls, rock formations and a cold sparkling spring-fed swimming hole.
For recreation of a different kind, the historic mining town of Cripple Creek, 30 miles to the east, offers gambling for those who wish to try their luck. In Victor, tours of the active Old Molly Kathleen gold mine are offered to the public. Other geologic wonders include a magnificent rose quartz deposit located on public lands near Guffey.
